Tradition and Innovation, Tam-awan Artists exhibits in the Ayala Museum

Tradition and InnovationFebruary 20 to March 5, 2009, the Ayala museum was graced with the presence of the most respected Filipino artists from the north, a rich representation and display of cordillera’s art and culture.

Twenty four (24) artworks were on display in various forms and interpretation, expressed both by the experienced artists (tradition) and innovation of the young. Artists ranging from 20 years old up to their 50’s joined together for this special event.

The reason: “We want to present the culture and tradition of the cordillera people. The rich history that brought us to where we are today” cited Wrachelle Guerrero Calderon, manager of the Tam-awan Village. “Due to modernization, our culture is slowly fading, and we want to preserve it in our own little way, thru art.”

The artists that participated in this exhibit were carefully chosen and hand picked. Aside from being a member of the Tam-awan Village, one has to have the willingness and love of the culture of the cordillera.

This event is made possible by Mr. Chit Asignacion, Vice President of the Chanum Foundation Inc. and Mr. Rolly Cruz, the curator of the Ayala Museum.

After this event, the artist will have a year round exhibit on display in the Tam-awan Village in Baguio City. (Invites for other exhibits are welcome by the Tam-awan artists)
