“Conspirateurs du Plaisir” by Agnes Arellano, Duddley Diaz and Fernando Modesto

Alliance Française de Manille brings together three multi-awarded artists: two sculptors and a painter in a collaborative exhibition that spells FUN!

“Conspirateurs du Plaisir” (“Conspirators of Pleasure”) convenes sculptors Agnes Arellano and Duddley Diaz and painter Fernando Modesto in a treatise exhibition on erotic expression.  Arellano’s works are reflections of her continuing crusade of looking at Sex with a fresh eye.

The miniature bas-reliefs inspired by her archeological temple research in Khajuraho, India are rendered in her neo-classical style in white plaster of Paris.  Her half-moon “Tablets for Instruction” portray sensual erotological group scenes.  Diaz’s expressionistic sculptures draw the erotic from a union between classical mythology and ethnic Filipino folklore.

Several of Diaz’s works, carved in wood and alabaster or cast in bronze, were inspired by his favorite myth about Eros and Psyche.  His principal “conspirateur” is BululEros who appears in a typical bulul pose in his full masculine potency.

Modesto’s works reflect his playful take on life, nature and sex.  This agent provocateur puts together objects and elements that he hopes will make people look, stop, talk, laugh, and get titillated.  His paintings and collages are abstract metaphors of the erotic, full of his usual wit and fun-loving spirit.

The exhibition “Conspirateurs du Plaisir” will be complemented by Wednesday evening screenings of erotic films for the entire duration of the exhibition.  Please consult the AFM website www.alliance.ph for the screening schedule.

The artists’ reception will be held at the Total Gallery of the Alliance Française de Manille, on Thursday, November 4, 2010, from 6:30 pm to 9 pm, and the exhibit runs until November 22, 2010.
