The Other side of Ponj Roco

Ponj RocoRaul “Ponj” Roco Jr., he is a familiar name, known for his active involvement in spoken word performances, moves on and expands his wings to the next level of his imaginative and creative flair. This time it is a side that has only been seen through his looking glass and not witnessed by the publich eye. Now, - visual and tangible THE OTHER SIDE OF ME, is a fitting phrase describing “Ponj” as a growing artist. He transforms his poetry into works on canvas and combines both art forms with spontaneity.  He has created a bridge towards interactive art bringing his work closer to the viewer. He shows that abstract expressionism is not the only card he holds but also his own Surreal world which was inspired by “The Persistence of Memory” by Salvador Dali

Ricco Renzo Gallery mounts the solo art exhibition of Raul ‘Ponj” Roco, Jr. entitled THE OTHER SIDE OF ME at the Second level of GF LRI Design Plaza, 210 Nicanor Garcia Street, Formerly Reposo. Bel Air 2. Makati City, from October 20 – November 14, 2011.

Ponj Roco, son of the late Senator Raul Roco and theatre artist, Sonia Roco, where Ponj may have taken his artistic genes from, finished B.A. Comparative Literature in U.P. Diliman. His travels with the family through a Scandinavian Tour of the Baltic Sea, has exposed him to different forms and styles of art and has provided him inspiration to pen express a hidden part of him.

Vibrant, dynamic, whimsical and colourful are words to describe Ponj’s works. His works speak of him, full of life and vivacity. His intense yearning for new style is pervasive, still he yearns to explore and discover what is to be discovered in this vast realm of art.

Ponj, a happy and cheerful person strongly expresses in his style – the modern with a touch of expressive figures joint with the freedom of abstract. An artist to watch out for, Ponj expresses his artistry, “I write with ink from teardrops..” one of the works that shows his a painter and a poet, interactive artwork where one can move and change the look of the art to have more than just one painting, - literary, visual and experiential are his way of expressing his art which is worth experiencing.
