Sofia, In Love with Nova Bossa

Sofia, In Love with Nova Bossa

Ivory Music has just launched in Love With Nova Bossa featuring Sofia, the singer-guitarist who last year generated quite a buzz with her inspired singing on her debut CD Bossa Latino Lite. On hand for the launch, held at the Café Havana / Café Adriatico Gateway Gardens (Araneta Center) were members of the press and a few select fans showing their appreciation.

Taking the platform with her acoustic nylon guitar on hand and with another musician on back-up steel guitar, bongos and shakers. Sofia serenaded the gathered crowd with traditional Brazilian songs like Falsa Baiana, So Em Teus Bracos, and Moro Na Roca. The cool evening complemented Sofia well while she sang bossa-fied versions of I’ll Never Fall In Love Again and Birthday Song amidst a backdrop of flowers and candles.

In Love With Nova Bossa contains eighteen new tracks and takes the listener a step further into the different styles of music that can be incorporated with bossa. Traditional meets modern music styles the result of  which are the selections that you can hear in the new CD. Brazilian numbers like Moro Na Roca, Falsa Baiana, So Nice (Samba De Verao) go hand in hand with the jazzy Night & Day, the pop-tinged You Are The Sunshine Of My Life, the bit of RNB inflected singing in Can’t Take My Eyes Off You or the dance remix of Moro Na Roca. This is at the heart of In Love With Nova Bossa where bossa meets pop, jazz, dance and so on hence the tag “nova bossa” or new bossa. The new album also sees Sofia sharing two new duets with Awit awardee THOR on the songs Can’t Take My Eyes Off You and I Will. The new album also includes two new original bossa numbers namely Warm Impressions and Unexpectedly. Also included is a cover of a Bong Penera classic titled Tell Me and the Moy Ortiz/Edith Gallardo song Hulog Ng Langit. Rounding off the rest of the songs are I’ll Take Care Of You and What A Wonderful World.

The first single Moro Na Roca (Pronounced moron a hosa) has two versions in the album. The first one is in its traditional version and the other is a remixed dance version. This samba-cum-club mix number presents bossanova in a totally different but easy recognizable form. The music video for the single also features the full-on band version and the dance version.

Also out on the market is a special double-disc album simply titled SOFIA, containing In Love With Nova Bossa and Bossa Latino Lite. This 2-CD packages contains 36 songs including all the highlights of both albums and as a bonus, buyers are able to save about a hundred or so precious pesos if they choose to get this special release.
