Slapshock releases Greatest Hits CD
Ten years ago, a rap-metal band fronted by Jamir Garcia had a huge hit with a song called “Agent Orange” which launched them slowly yet surely into a nation's consciousness. They'd release five studio albums with umpteen singles, played a multiple stages across the nation, influence a generation and define the rock genre. Slapshock now proudly announces the release of their Greatest Hits album released by EMI Phils called RECOLLECTION with the carrier single SIGAW.
“Sigaw is about hope and promises…that someone will be there no matter what…” says Jamir Garcia, the band’s vocalist/songwriter as he describes the album’s carrier single. The song now enters the Philippine Charts of Channel V's AMP site and surges right at the top spot. It is also a new entry at the AMP Asian Charts at #5. The song has just begun to hit the airwaves last week and it has received a lot of good reviews. The video also just premiered at MYX which was directed by Team Manila.
The album charts the history of the band, starting with Evil Clown, which paved way to Slapshock’s debut to Pinoy rock, right up to the present day, with a new song, Sigaw. The collection also includes their Number One singles Agent Orange (1998); Get Away (2001); Miles Away (2005); Direction and Waiting (2006).
As Greatest Hits shows, it has been a long and winding road for Slapshock but that ten years have made RECOLLECTION to unravel the band’s history and make this a worthwhile venture. Slapshock emerged in 1998 and since then, they have been releasing music by numbers.
The latest Slapshock collection is quite obviously defines a series of the band’s maturity from paying homage to their musical influences to creating their own niche in Pinoy rock. “I think even if we've changed our musical style over the years...AGENT ORANGE would truly represent Slapshock...It's not because it was our first biggest hit but up until now, whenever we play in our gigs, anywhere in the country...we would still get the same reception like its was still a current hit...everybody would still go crazy whenever we perform it,” says basist Lee Nadela.
Slapshock quickly achieved their goal of rock star status through the faultless debut 4th Degree Burn, 1999; plat-selling Head Trip, 2001; commercial and critical success Project 11/41, 2002; the remixed Back to the Two Inch, 2003; the experimental Novena, 2004; and the melodic Silence, 2006. Slapshock had created six (5 studio and 1 remix album) of the best rock albums of the decade each time elevating their performance to a higher level.
“We’ve toured and played together for ten years [and while other bands burned out from such extensive proximity], we were able to work out our differences.” Jamir Garcia shared.
Formed in 1998 by Jamir Garcia (vocals), Lean Ansing (guitars), Jerry Basco (guitars), Lee Nadela (bass) and Chi Evora (drums). Five studio albums in all their glory, the 'Greatest Hits' captures enough moments in one place. Ten years ago and from then on, Slapshock became one of Pinoy rock’s greatest bands.
“We'll continue to write good quality music and release more albums in the future. We'll continue to tour and do gigs big and small all over the country to reach out to every fan we have...and it's only now that we're starting to work with our international affiliates...We're currently working with musicians from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Japan, to try to reach out and help each other. Lee Nadela humbly adds. This Greatest Hits Album will surely mark as the band;s first chapter. “The next chapter is just beginning and lot more exciting chapters to come.”
Die-hard fans should definitely get hold of RECOLLECTION album which also comes with a bonus cd. The bonus cd includes a collection of your favorite Slapshock music videos.
