One may consider it as tragic that most people under forty years old don’t know who Diomedes  Maturan is, and few have ever been exposed to his music. THIS IS DIOMEDES will introduce them to marvelous music sung by the inimitable balladeer. Regarded by some as the local counterpart of Perry Como, comparisons to their voices is inevitable though his voice is deeper and his range is great.

Most of the songs in the CD release were include in the 1960’s 12-song Long Playing album release. THIS IS DIOMEDES highlights the type of 50’s and 60’s standards and Pop Ballads that Diomedes Maturan was famous for. These include “Oh My Papa”, “I Believe”, “The Way It Used To be” and “Il Mondo (My World)” to name a few. Also in the CD is a rare English version of “Sampaguita” as well as two Tagalog songs, “Sa Sulyap Mo” and “Kahit Limutin Mo,” sang with so much pathos and emotion. Also of note is “In Your Eyes,” by the late, renowned composer, George Canseco.

A highly recommended CD for fans of classic pop singing and fans who want a recording of the singer at his peak. The liner notes by entertainment columnist, the late ‘JQ’ Joe Quirino, from the original LP adds luster to this wonderful album.
