KAGAT LABI: Certified Joeylicious
JOEY DE LEON is famous being the comedian/TV host who is known for his sarcasm and one of the popular hosts of the long-running noontime variety show Eat Bulaga! but here’s a new treat to TVJ’s Tough Hits series fanatics as EMI Philippines proudly releases another record-breaking album from the master comedian himself, Joey de Leon with KAGAT LABI: Certified Joeyliciuos featuring the popular dance craze in noon time television, “Kagat Labi”.
For Joey, his pop hits and novelty songs have left a mark to his name that came about 30 years since he started in showbiz. It started off with 2006’s “Itaktak Mo” which he wrote and became a big hit among all ages especially to Eat Bulaga’s avid fans. “Itaktak Mo” became a pop hit and released with the album Joey To The World in 2007.
For 2008, Joey comes out with another history-repeats-itself feat. KAGAT LABI, Joey’s carrier single for the new album, “Kagat Labi“ dance craze is currently sweeping the whole country by storm with its dance step graced mostly by kids and adults alike.
“Nagsimula ‘yan sa dance step lang… pag ginagawa ko ‘yung kagat labi sabay sayaw tapos naging kanta na” shares Joey. “Kagat Labi’s melody adapted from the 60s big hit “Land of the Thousand Dances” with its famous “na na na na na na na” hook.

If cover songs are becoming hit nowadays, Joey did his unique approach of making it like the old Tough Hits days. If you are familiar with the song “Sugod” of one of the sought-after bands SANDWICH, you’ll never go wrong with “Luhod,” Joey’s good-humored version dubbed as “Luhod mga kafatid, tayo ay magsama-sama…” Also, Joey’s satirical imitation of SUGARFREE’s Hari Ng Sablay with “Kahit Tuyo” completes Joey’s new collection.
From the popular phrase “bikining itim” Joeylicious album also features “Bikining Mong Puti (May Nakangiti)”; “Food Na, Eat Na” another song dedicated to all Eat
Bulaga fanatics and “Pinagpatong-patong” which also being played on the show Eat
Bulaga with the EB Babes. Other catchy tracks in the album inlcludes “Kagat Labi (Eat Bulaga version)” with guests artists Julia Clarete and Allan K.; and “Kagat Labi (Minus One)”
Currently Joey De Leon still hosts GMA network’s Eat Bulaga which is now the longest-running TV program in the Philippines, and appears in other shows like Mel and Joey, Startalk, Nuts Entertainment and just recently started a new show for ABC, Teka Mona, which replaced Wow Mali, his long-running TV show on the same network. Another show is in the works for Joey this time on GMA's sister station Q. He started hosting Takeshi's Castle with Ryan Yllana. He is also the resident judge of the annual reality-based star search StarStruck and writes the entertainment column De Leon's Den once a week in Manila Bulletin.
Also known as a songwriter, Joey has penned some Filipino hit songs deemed as classics including VST’s "Ipagpatawad Mo" and "Awitin Mo, Isasayaw Ko"; "Boyfriend kong Baduy" sung by Timmy Cruz; "Iskul Bukol" and many more.
For Joey, there is more to creating hits songs than all the showbiz intrigues and controversies. To deliver common-tao tales through these songs, in its truest sense makes him differ from the others.
