From the moment Kyla dropped into the music scene in 2000, critics and listeners alike tagged her as the country’s soul R&B princess. From then on, Kyla maintained her title with six most daring albums to mark. For 2008, Kyla is back again to repeat the process with an alluring CD that features her powerful but soulful voice with the album HEART 2 HEART.

Heart To Heart as the album’s kick off single is an original hit of Kenny Loggins from the 80s. Kyla’s R&B version is now playing on local radios and will be coming out with a music video as directed by Treb Monteras (also directed Kyla’s Ngayong Wala Ka Na (Beautiful Days album) and I Don’t Want You To Go (Heartfelt album)

In her seventh album HEART 2 HEART, Kyla debuts her expertise inside the studio. She co-produced her new CD and she adds, “This is something new to me. After releasing six albums that truly helped me grow artistically and professionally, on my seventh album I want to do something that I could be more proud of not just being a singer but a professional artist in all aspects.” For a first timer inside the recording booth not just as a singer, sharing her most creative points of view and coming out with an album she could be most proud of, Kyla faced her challenge in a brighter perspective working well with Arnie Mendaros who guided her as song image coach and back-up vocal arranger.

EMI-Polyeast A&R Manager & album producer, Chito Ilagan says “Surprisingly, Kyla had a lot of production savvy. She knew exactly how to deliver the songs even though all of them had new arrangements.” Kyla also is responsible in choosing some of the songs where she included BACK IN TIME, an R&B collaboration with JayR where they both recorded the song at JayR’s studio. Another original track is YOU MAKE ME FEEL also penned by Kyla, JayR and Jimmy Muna; and TAHAN NA (composed by Toto Sorioso). Aside from the 11 revival tracks and three original compositions, the album also boasts a bonus Christmas song with Kyla’s rendition of MY GROWN UP CHRISTMAS LIST for the coming holiday season.

Ilagan also says, “As a co-producer, she communicated very well with me and with the engineer on specific things that she wanted on certain songs. EMI has a lot of future plans for Kyla not only as a singer but also on the production side as well.” Kyla admits that after doing her first album to co-produce she would be continuing what she had started. “I’m having fun and really, I had fun not just because of co-producing my own album… but I’m learning a lot and I’m bringing out more what I know I can offer. Every album is a learning experience for me and of course, I also wanna impart what I have achieved in the past years. And that’s the best part, isn’t it? I’m willing to help other artists also,” she said with much conviction.  

Other tracks include revivals of hits back in the 80s is Klymaxx’s I MISS YOU, Phyllis Hyman’s OLD FRIEND, I’LL NEVER GIVE UP of Amy Holland, STAY AWAKE of Ronnie Laws, MYSTY GLASS WINDOW of Artstart, BUS STOP of THE HOLLIES, I’LL BE OVER YOU by Toto and others.  Kyla personally favors the last track, a remake of RIBBON IN THE SKY originally by Stevie Wonder. “I have always loved this song and brought out my best in singing it.” Evidently Kyla in her most soulful number, the song became like her own.

With 2007’s follow up “Heartfelt” with EMI Philippines (her home label since she started in 2000) we saw her with heartfelt remakes spanning a decade of love songs you’re your favorites like Joey Albert, Taylor Dane, and Patti Labelle to Aretha Franklin. Like the album Gold record “Heartfelt”, HEART 2 HEART is a combination of Kyla’s soulful covers and new compositions we’ve all waiting for from the soul R&B princess herself.

After eight years in the music business, Kyla never went away from her title. She evolved into a new woman who knows her craft very well, and as she delivers hits upon hits in the coming years—Kyla reigns with the title with her feet on the ground. “Heart 2 Heart means a lot to me and singing from heart to heart…I can say that love is something we can share best to other people, to people who needs is most. I hope everyone will listen to every song and sing it from heart to heart like I do,” Kyla said smiling.
