Romcom at the Music Museum

The CompanYRomcom, a romantic comedy show of Jonathan Santos and the CompanY, was held at the Music Museum last January 27, 2012, truly an inspiring and amazing collaboration of Filipino talents.

The CompanY, though they are known for their romantic love song hits, offers so much more in their live performances. They can deliver a great performance combining classical, pop, RnB, romance and comedy in their music that greatly showed their passion, diversity and talent.  But the thought of collaborating with Jonathan Santos and his multiple personalities, wit, and humor made the show more entertaining as ever.

The opening act alone was an ice breaker. A great performance by The CompanY, wearing a formal, coat and tie attire, while Jon Santos came out of an Egg dressed as a cupid, that certainly captured not only the audience’s attention but filled the auditorium with non-stop laughter and applause. Feeling out-of-place among the rest with his costume, Jon then wore a formal white suit, printed on a tarpaulin and hanged over his neck.

Romcom was filled with great music, awesome performances, magnificent musical arrangements, and tons of laughter throughout the night. It was a show for people in love, people looking for love, and people who doesn’t care about love. It was a time well spent to sit back and enjoy The CompanY’s classical, pop and Filipino songs;  as well as the special appearances of the mother of Manny Pacquiao, Lola Dionisia and Erap Estrada thru the persona of Jon Santos. There was never a dull moment on stage.

Jonathan Santos as Lola DionisiaWhen I asked Jon Santos, Why Romcom? He simply answered with a grin on his face, “Because we (The company and I) love romantic comedy, and comedy as a guilty pleasure. Romantic comedy is good for the spirit; they make us nice and giddy.”

“We realized we didn’t have to divide Romcom between the two of us. Hindi lamang sila ang romantic, hindi lamang ako ang comic, so much of their (The CompanY) work have incorporated comedy, and I was reminded a thing or two about love after all these years.” Jon added

The show was conceptualized by Moy Ortiz of The Company and this was their second collaboration with Jon Santos. Keeping my fingers crossed, hoping that there will be more of this to come. A Romcom series perhaps?
