Dominador "Jun" Jacolbe Jr.

Jun JacolbeDominador Jacolbe Jr., also known as “Jun” is what I can call, a creative, passionate and dedicated artist. Though he was not able to finish college, art has been in his blood ever since.

Able to expose himself in art classes in the summer of 1968 during college years and photography in 1975-1990, still, this was not the time for the artistic side of Jun to blossom. He worked in a prestigious airline company for several years to establish and support his family, and being an artist was not in his mind.

But in 2001, Jun was able to meet prestigious people in the art industry such as Buboy Dinapo, Ben Andres, Nick Aranda, Jun dulay and Gene De Loyola, they gave him the encouragement and the will power to pursue his destiny, they made him realize that he has the talent, and it will be a waste not to pursue it.

Jun then slowly gave himself time to realize where his career path will go, and so he decided to quit his job to be a legitimate – full time artist!

Having Michael Angelo as his inspiration, he tries to enhance his craft by continually painting using different mediums. Oil, water color, pen, pencil, charcoal, on-the-spot painting, studio portraits, landscapes, nude and caricature, Jun never stops to enhance the God-given skill that he has. ‘I would like to try working on different things to be able to discover my strengths and weaknesses.” Said Jun.

Jun Jacolbe's ArtworkIn 2007, he was able to sell his very first artwork for an overwhelming price that serves as an inspiration for Jun to continue on his craft, a sign that proves the path that he has chosen is definitely what he has been waiting for all his life.

“Painting and being an artist is very rewarding, not only in the financial side but its how people appreciate your work and to be able to see their satisfied faces with what I have done. By the end of the day, it’s all worth it.” Cited Jun.

Being able to sell his artworks brings joy and sorrow to Jun’s heart, “Every time I created something, I give a part of me in it. Being able to sell it brings joy in my heart because I can see that people appreciates it. But at the same time, it gives me grief to let my artwork go. I know, being an artist, its something I have to be ready for.”

This only proves the creativity and dedication of Jun for his craft. “It is significant that I dedicate my art for the glory of my Creator coupled with the feeling of how unworthy I am of all his blessings! My best works pale in comparison with His smallest creations! And this realization is a real humbling one!” Jun added, “My ultimate dream is to win an art contest, to have my first solo exhibit and carve a niche for myself in the art world”

Jun has been a part of Daigdig Pinoy by giving on the spot painting to our patrons during exhibits. It is a wonderful sight to see how the faces of the people lit when they saw their portraits sketched in just a matter of minutes.
