Bienvenido Baligod, lemon grass distiller

Bienvenido BaligodAn engineer, who has worked in the oil fields overseas for 23 years, has come to his retirement and wanted to do something, but can’t figure out what… not until he attended a seminar with DOST.

In 2001, He came across Distillers. His curiosity and interest in this field made him to look at it a little further. For 3 years, he focused his attention to make the distiller work. He never stopped until he gets it working really good.

He started off with producing lemon grass oil. And he is proud to say, that it is their distilling system that makes their oil different and that makes them produce quality oil.

Now, he was able to produce lemon grass tea, soaps, lotions, and perfumes to name a few. By next year, he will start distilling ilang-ilang.

Lemongrass is known to be good for high blood pressure, arthritis and dysmenorrheal for women.

“The demand for export is good. But the supplies are not enough even for the local market. We have a shortage of lemongrass suppliers and farmers in the area. We make sure we distill only the freshest cut lemongrass that we can find.” Cited Mr. Baligod.

At the moment, he is in the process of improving his distiller. They were able to distill about 300 kgs per day, but the construction and development is at hand, and in no time, they will be able to distill around 10-14 tons of lemongrass per day.

“I have been an OFW for so long, but the problem is, we (OFWs) earn good money, and we also spend good money. We spend it all. By the time I know I was retiring, I know I just have to do something. To our fellow OFWs, mag isip na kayo ngayon palang, what you will do with your money, you cannot work overseas for the rest of your life, think of your future. My son now works overseas, and am now advising him what to do with his money so when he reach old age, he will be very stable.” Said Mr. Baligod
