Pineapple, Pineapple, and more Pineapple

PineappleEverywhere I look, there is pineapple.

Dried pineapple, pineapple vinegar, fresh pineapple or pineapple pie. Everything is made of pineapple.

Ms. Sonia Rada of the Caayunan Multi-purpose cooperative Basud, Camarines Norte said, “This project was organized by the Department of Agrarian Reform to be able to find a way to use the abundant supply of small sized pineapples in the region.” This way, small sized pineapples have a better use and they were able to find a way to preserve the fruit as well.

Pineapple contains a proteolytic enzyme bromelain, which digests food by breaking down protein. Pineapple juice can thus be used as a marinade and tenderizer for meat. It can also be used to enhance digestion. Pineapple is a good source of manganese, as well as containing significant amounts of Vitamin C and Vitamin B1.

Due to the tropical climate, proper irrigation, the supply of pineapple is abundant and a continuous supply for the market is said to be sufficient for export and local markets alike.
