Celebrating EARTH DANCE and MAHARLIKA SUNRISE FESTIVAL in Manila

Earthdance PhilippinesEarth dance Philippines just started last 2008; it is an event that has been celebrated worldwide in over 350 locations as part of the UN (United Nation’s) program for peace. Earth dance is usually held on the month of September in celebration of earth peace month, but due to the storms, it was cancelled and rescheduled last November 27-29, 2009.

Earth dance Philippines serves as the glue that addresses environmental concerns and they work closely with the Green Agenda Philippines. They support the existing projects and programs of different organizations focusing on the environment. They aim to promote awareness, enhance it and bring it in a bigger platform.

“Earth dance not only focuses on helping these programs but also aims to make a difference. We are planning to put up eco-friendly stores and eco-friendly villages by next year.” Cited Ishilta, organizer and communication officer of Earth dance Philippines.

This year, Earth dance collaborated with Maharlika Sunrise Festival that was held in the Philippine Parks and Wildlife in Quezon City.

Maharlika Sunrise festival is the product of the Maharlika Artist and Writers Federation which was formed in San Joaquin Iloilo in 2003. “We created this federation to widen and spread our advocacy among artists in the country. We believe that the artists and writers have a crucial role in promoting peace across the nation thru arts and literature.” cited Deo Palma, Maharlika’s national coordinator.

The festival started in 2004, a year after the federation was established. It has been celebrated for 6 years that started off in Cebu, then in Boracay, Dumaguete, Baguio, Pampanga and for this year, in Manila.

The Maharlika Sunrise Festival is believed to be the only roving-multi-feasted festival in the country that promotes culture and health awareness thru forums, discussions, exhibits, concerts, and health products. Not only that, they also focuses on teaching people that they can enjoy a festival without smoking, alcohol or drugs.
